There’s something irresistibly magical about Sicily. Nina and Alex, all the way from New York, felt it too and decided to celebrate their love story at the breathtaking Commenda di San Calogero. This historic gem, nestled in the lush Sicilian countryside, became the perfect stage for their unforgettable day.
The Venue: Commenda di San Calogero
The Commenda di San Calogero, founded between 1301 and 1309 by a Norman nobleman from the Order of St. James of the Sword, is a testament to Sicily’s rich history. Set on 110 acres, the estate is surrounded by verdant, lavish gardens, numerous shaded seating areas, peaceful look-outs, and secluded benches that offer absolute privacy and leisure. Located north of Syracuse, it is conveniently situated only a short distance from Catania airport, making it accessible for international guests.
The day began with Nina and Alex getting ready in two different areas of the stunning historic estate. Nina’s suite was a haven of elegance, filled with natural light that poured through the large windows, creating a soft and flattering glow—ideal for capturing those intimate moments of preparation.
Every corner of this location whispers elegance and authenticity, making it a true paradise for any wedding photographer in Sicily.
Meanwhile, Alex’s morning unfolded in another beautifully appointed corner of the Commenda, exuding the rustic charm that the venue is known for.
The October light was nothing short of magical—soft, golden and perfectly diffused, setting the tone for the entire day. And while the air hinted at autumn, the pool at the Commenda di San Calogero was still warm enough to tempt a few adventurous guests into taking a refreshing dip before the celebrations began.
Before the ceremony, the couple shared their first look in front of the estate’s historic chapel. This intimate moment, set against the backdrop of the charming chapel, was both emotional and picturesque, adding a timeless touch to their special day.
The ceremony took place in the Commenda’s iconic field—a space that felt like it was pulled straight out of a fairytale. With an explosion of colorful flowers framing the scene, it was impossible not to feel the magic in the air.
If you’re considering a wedding in Sicily, the Commenda di San Calogero offers a setting that is both romantic and unforgettable, making it a true paradise for any wedding photographer in Sicily.
The ceremony? Oh, it was something out of a dream. As I said before, the setting, held in the iconic field of the Commenda, was an explosion of colors—vivid flowers carpeting the scene like a painter’s masterpiece. The natural beauty of the landscape wrapped the couple in an atmosphere that felt timeless yet vibrantly alive.
Right after the ceremony, guests gathered in the charming courtyard of the Commenda di San Calogero for a delightful aperitivo and appetizers.
Sicilian culinary specialties stole the show, offering a true taste of the region, while a local band filled the air with music, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere. For any wedding photographer in Sicily, this part of the day is a dream to capture—genuine laughter, exquisite food and the timeless beauty of such a unique venue.
When it came time for the reception, guests were treated to an unforgettable dinner under the olive trees.
A long imperial table adorned with shimmering chandeliers created an atmosphere straight out of a movie. The speeches were heartfelt, the food divine and the setting? Simply unparalleled.
As night fell, the celebration transformed into an energetic dance party under the stars. The Commenda di San Calogero truly shines when the sun sets, offering a dreamy, intimate vibe that every couple could hope for on their wedding day.
I had the honor of capturing this beautiful event as the second shooter for the talented Karen Norian photography . For a Sicilian wedding photographer, the Commenda di San Calogero is a venue like no other: it offers history, charm and endless opportunities for stunning photographs.
If you’re searching for the perfect place to get married in Sicily, this venue is a must-see. And if you’re looking for someone to capture your day, well, I’d be delighted to turn your moments into timeless memories.
